For this article we set off in search of the best electric can opener on the market. We researched online reviews, sales popularity, and most importantly, customer feedback. The can opener that came out on top was a clear winner, the Hamilton Beach 76607 Smooth Touch Can Opener. It’s stable, easiest to use of the competition, and cuts a smooth edge around the rim of cans allowing you to ensure you don’t cut yourself and even put the lid back on for short term storage if you need to do so.
Electric can openers are generally very inexpensive and this is true of the 76607, although it is on the expensive end of the pack. If you’re looking to save a few dollars we have a couple solid recommendations. Continue reading to learn more about what we liked with the Hamilton Beach 76607 and some less expensive options.
This can opener is by far the most popular can opener on Amazon and we can see why. The Hamilton Beach 76607 can opener has a couple of really nice features that set it apart from the rest of the pack. The most obvious is that this can opener is a smooth edge can opener, meaning that it will do a great job of opening cans of all sizes and leave no rough edge that you can cut yourself on.
Another great feature of this can opener is the locking lever for locking the can in place. It has a lever that is not fiddly to use or require a lot of strength to snap closed. This is great for anyone suffering from arthritis or similar issues that may make other can openers more difficult to deal with. Even if you don’t have any strength or dexterity issues it’s a lot more pleasing to use than the competition.
Additionally this is a sharp looking small appliance. It’s reasonably fast and is stable even when attaching some larger cans. Online reviewers generally rank this can opener as their overall winner or second pick. Customers give overwhelmingly positive feedback which is extremely impressive given how much feedback this can opener has received. If you’re looking for the best electric can opener on the market then look no further.
The Hamilton Beach 76380Z is a great alternative to the 76607 that we picked as our best choice if you’re looking to save a couple dollars. Think of it as the best can opener from the previous decade. It has a bit of an older look and feel but it works very well. It’s also extremely popular on Amazon although not nearly as much so as our number one pick. It does get similarly glowing positive customer feedback and positive reviews online from reviewers.
Like the 76607, it’s still reasonably good for those with dexterity issues but it doesn’t cut along the edge of the can, leaving a smooth edge. It does a good job of cutting into the lid cleanly though so there’s no need to worry too much about jagged metal. It does seem to be a little less stable than our number one pick with large cans but that’s a minor quibble.
While we don’t think the cost differential is worth the difference we do understand that for some, saving a couple dollars on something like a can opener is worth it to them. If you fall in that category this is a great alternative pick for you.
For a couple dollars less than our runner up you can go with the Cuisinart CCO-50BKN can opener. The cost difference is small but when every dollar counts this one would be the one to pick. It’s reasonably popular on Amazon and like the other two it gets great reviews online as well as excellent customer feedback. It’s slightly more fiddly to use than our runner up choice but certainly not a deal breaker. It does have a very sturdy base which helps with larger cans. If you just need a solid can opener and one to pay the least amount possible, we couldn’t recommend a better choice than the Cuisinart CCO-50BKN.
Ezra Warner invented the electric can opener in 1958, approximately 50 years after the beginning of when cans were used to store food.
Electric can openers are more than just an extravagant convenience. If you need to open a lot of cans or have dexterity problems such as arthritis then an electric can opener can be a real game changer. A good quality electric can opener can often be more durable and long lasting than a manual can opener. They are obviously easier to use whether you have dexterity issues or not.
The best electric can opener on the market is clearly the Hamilton Beach 76607. It has the most thought out design and attention to detail. The Hamilton Beach 76380Z and the Cuisinart CCO-50BKN are great can openers as well but the 76607 is just better on every level. Given how cheap can openers are, we can’t justify the cost savings but some people will disagree with us there. That’s why we have you covered with our other two selections. If you want the easiest to use can opener and appreciate a smooth edged cut we whole heartedly recommend the Hamilton Beach 76607 electric can opener. Good luck and happy cooking.
