The best vacuum flask that is great at keeping liquids hot should have a tight fitting lid that is also well insulated. Vacuum insulated bottles in general perform very well and it is the seal at the lid that is the main point of heat escape.
We researched online reviews, customer feedback, and popularity of vacuum sealed thermoses and found that the Hydro Flask was the best choice. We found two other similar performing bottles that we also feel are worth considering. Continue reading to learn more about the Hydro Flask as well as the two additional flasks that we feel are great alternatives.
The Hydro Flask is probably the most insanely popular of the vacuum sealed flasks on the market and the customer feedback is shockingly positive. Of products I’ve reviewed for KitchenPerfect I don’t believe I’ve encountered such an overwhelmingly positive customer sentiment. Truly loved by almost everyone that owns one. That really says a lot.
The wide mouth flask comes in 4 sizes from 18oz all the way up to a massive 64oz with a 32oz and 40oz size filling in the middle. They come in a wide variety of colors and you can add a straw lid which is great for cold drinks, or a flip lid, which is great for hot drinks, if you like. The lids are interchangeable with all of the different sizes so you could get a small one and a large one and swap the lids. It comes with what they call a flex cap which is simply a screw on lid with a strap riveted to the cap. This cap is the best for keeping liquids hot as it is the most insulated of the available caps.
Hydro Flask claims up to 12 hours for keeping drinks piping hot and 24 hours for keeping them frigidly cold. Reviewers and customers back this claim up. If you want the best, don’t look any further. Get yourself a Hydro Flask.
If the price of the Hydro Flask puts you off we highly recommend the bargain priced Glacier Point Vacuum Insulated Bottle. It doesn’t come in the wide array of sizes and colors but it does get nearly as positive reviews and customer feedback. Build quality is good but not quite as high end as the Hydro Flask. This one is a real bargain price but even comes with two lids. One screw on that’s ideal for hot drinks and one straw lid that’s great for cold drinks. The mouth opening of this bottle is much narrower than the Hydro Flask which can make it more challenging depending on what you’re trying to put into it but that’s a minor quibble. For the money you’d be hard pressed to beat this vacuum thermos.
If you aren’t bothered by the fact that the Healthy Human Insulated Bottles are a blatant rip off of the Hydro Flask brand, they’re a great value. Quality is reasonably although not up to the Hydro Flask standard but the price is significantly less. These flasks come in many more sizes and colors than the Glacier Point bottles but they aren’t offered in as many size and color varieties as the Hydro Flask bottles. Performance is very good. Customers and reviewers generally love the product so despite being a knock off, it’s still a great product.
A vacuum flask uses a vacuum between two layers of metal to prevent hot or cold from transferring via convection. A special coating blocks the ability for heat to radiate out or in. The only way heat or cold can transfer in or out aside from when the lid is removed is through the seal. The better the seal the more effective it is at retaining hot or cold contents.
When it comes to the best thermos for keeping liquids hot there really isn’t much need to worry too much about one brand performing much better than the other. Most of them perform quite well in this area. The real issues to pay attention to are fit and finish. The Hydro Flask brand of vacuum flasks is a top tier product and while they are expensive, they are of the highest quality. Glacier Point comes in a very respectable second and for far less cost. Healthy Human is also extremely good and for a lot less than the cost of the Hydro Flask brand. You can feel confident that any of these vacuum flasks will perform extremely well with keeping liquids hot. Judge them based on cost and how much you’re willing to spend to pay for build quality.
