We read online reviews and researched customer feedback on the most popular poultry shears on the market. We found that the OXO Good Grips Poultry Shears are the best and most popular poultry shears. We did find however that the Fiskars Poultry Shears are nearly equally as good for a lot less money although they are 9 inches long as opposed to 10 inches long. We also discovered the Wusthof Poultry Shears which are more for show but still reasonably good. They are flashy and very good looking as well as astronomically expensive, especially when compared to the excellent and bargain priced Fiskars. Continue reading to learn more about what makes a good set of poultry shears and why we picked the OXO Good Grips Poultry Shears and our number one pick.
Our Number One Pick:
OXO Good Grips Spring-Loaded Poultry Shears
The OXO Good Grips Spring Loaded Poultry Shears are probably the most popular poultry shears on the market at the moment and for good reason. These shears have all of the features you would look for in a pair of poultry shears but the price is very reasonable. They are designed to be easy to grasp and not slip. The spring helps ease hand fatigue. It has a lock to keep the scissors in a closed and safe position while in storage or not in use. As all good poultry shears should have, there is a notch to aid in cutting through bone. The blades are stainless steel and can be separated to be cleaned by hand or in the dishwasher.
Fiskars Heavy-duty Butcher Shears (9 Inch)
The Fiskars heavy duty butcher shears are ideal poultry shears. They’re slightly smaller than the OXO shears but otherwise have all the same features which include a lock to keep the spring loaded scissors closed when stored away or not being used. They come apart so they can easily be washed and they are also dishwasher safe. The handle includes a looped grip to help prevent slippage while cutting your chicken. Probably the best thing about these slightly smaller shears over the OXO shears is the price is significantly less. While the OXO shears are more popular and get outstanding reviews, the Fiskars tend to languish out of the spotlight but they are well respected and quite popular despite less online reviews. If you value saving a few dollars of a slightly longer set of shears, the Fiskars are an excellent buy.
Wusthof 10” Stainless Steel Poultry Shears 5505
I’ll just say it, the Wusthof 5505 poultry shears are more for showing off than anything else. They’re gorgeous in comparison to the plastic handled OXO and Fiskars. They’re all stainless steel except for some rubber texturing on the handle. They’re a very capable set of spring loaded poultry shears but they don’t quite stack up in functionality to the others. They’re also quite expensive. The grip lacks a loop and is a little slippery to grasp which is obviously less than ideal for a sharp instrument. They are well constructed and will last for decades in home use. If you’re looking for form over function then these are your best bet if your wallet can handle the burden. Otherwise, if you want better performing poultry shears for far less money, we recommend going with the OXO or Fiskars instead.

The Best Poultry Shears
Poultry shears are a great alternative to using a knife to break down a chicken. Shears can be easier to handle and grasp as well as cut through tough bones and other tough bits. Poultry shears can also tackle other cutting tasks in the kitchen so you needed worry that you’re buying a one trick tool. Our pick for the best poultry shears are the OXO Good Grips Spring Loaded Poultry Shears. They get glowing reviews from chefs and home cooks. They have loads of great features and they’re not too expensive. The Fiskars Heavy Duty Butcher Shears are nearly as good and get almost the same praise. They are one inch shorter than the OXO shears but otherwise provide all the same features. The Wusthof Stainless Steel Poultry Shears are great for those that enjoy working with a work of art as opposed to something that merely gets the job done. Honestly, the Wusthof shears aren’t quite as good as the other two but they are reasonably good and very well constructed. Any of these choices are great depending on your needs and tastes. The Fiskars are a great bargain if the slightly shorter length isn’t an issue for you. Otherwise we highly recommend going with the OXO Good Grips Poultry Shears.
